Shaw Neighborhood Improvement Association passes 2006 budget

February 27, 2006 - The SNIA Board of Directors passed a $51,875 budget for the 2006 year.  Some of the budgeted items included $10,000 towards the Helping Hands Grant program, which funds Shaw neighborhood programs and initiatives, $2200 towards a 6 month contract with the Horticultural Partnership for Shaw neighborhood trash pickup, and $600 towards improving the current SNIA computer system.  The Historic Shaw Art Fair budget, which was pulled out of the main budget this year, will be presented at the March 20 Board meeting.

The Shaw Neighborhood Improvement Association (SNIA) is a non-profit organization which was incorporated in 1994.  The corporation is managed by an executive committee and governed by the Board of Directors.  The Board of Directors is comprised of elected representatives of each block in the Shaw Neighborhood - this large network of block captains ensures that every voice is heard and every resident is represented.  The Board of Directors meet every third Monday of the month at 7pm at Tyler Place Presbyterian Church (Spring and Russell).

The SNIA serves the residents of the Shaw neighborhood by providing information, facilitating discussion, and acting on solutions.  General meetings provide monthly opportunities to personally interact with the Alderman, the 3rd District Police, the Neighborhood Stabilization Officer, SNIA Officers, as well as to meet and greet other residents of the community.  The Chairs of each SNIA committee provide updates and are available to answer any questions pertaining to their activities.  The program topics address current issues that are relevant to Shaw Neighborhood and St. Louis City.  The general membership meetings are held on the first Monday of the month at 7pm at St. Margaret of Scotland Church basement (39th and Flad).
